Rats and cockroaches infestation/problem in Mecca

Location: 65100 Date Palm, Mecca CA 92254

Description

First Report submitted. I visited a friend in Mecca, in Nueva Vista Apartments (over Date Palm St.). I saw a rat (a big one) getting in the balcony/patio of one of the two stories apartments. I asked, and two ladies mentioned they are more concerned about the cockroaches problem than the rats. As it was Sunday, no manager was available. Might be a problem of Public Health. Just found out about the site, and since I saw a report of a similar problem in Indio, I submitted this one.

The Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District (CVMVCD) will inspect properties to determine if there is a rodent infestation. We will also go over rodent control and rodent exclusion measures. We have assigned a Lead Technician to meet with property owners and to inspect the property. For more information, please contact us at 760 342 8287 or visit our website (www.cvmvcd.org).

There apparently are no laws prohibiting cockroach infestations in apartment buildings. It is up to the landlord to hire a private firm to spray for insect control. If the landlord refuses to remedy the situation, tenants should contact the Fair Housing Council of Riverside County Inc. at (800)655-1812 and request mediation.

A Lead Technician from the Coachella Valley Mosquito and Vector Control District inspected the property on 10/10/12. Inspection results: No Rodent or Roach evidence found from exterior - Apartments were sealed well and no structural damage found. General recommendations were made to management regarding rodent exclusion and reduction of food and harborage. For more information please feel free to contact Mathew Smith, Lead Supervisor @ 760-342-8287.
