As all of you know, the Waste Processing Plant is open again. What is the plan to control the amount of air pollution is caused by the plant? Let us review: WEI is no longer able to accept CA hazardous waste. Soil piles are dramatically smaller. No reports of intolerable smells from the facility have been received in several months. CA Legislative Committee Hearing on the topic was held in the valley. Situation received national attention including visits from Erin Brockovich and Senator Feinstein. All applicable laws are being enforced at this site. What do you suggest?

The ECV Environmental Justice Enforcement Taskforce is a place where community and government can work out problems, and even industry can talk and all together reach a solution. In that sense, the enforcement comes from the fact that when a problem is identified, an agency takes ownership and we all - both the agencies and community - see that the problem gets solved, sometimes via a green action and sometimes thru correction and enforcement actions. The case of WEI is complex because Tribal sovereignty is mixed in, but a lot of progress has been made, and most importantly, the issue is not over. You and your alliance are more than welcome to join us every third Wednesday of the month in the meetings - it is open to community members.
