Description
Large pile of tires dumped in recent weeks just outside 29 Palms Indians Reservation. Possibly could be vector site after rains.

Per City of Coachella and County Supv. John Benoit's Office staff, this is also the location of a homeless encampment. The encampment is scheduled for demolition on 2/29/16. There will be a resource event to offer assistance to those living in the camp, the week prior. Social Services has been out to offer help and the eviction notice has been issued.

Coachella Valley Mosquito & Vector Control District reported that they inspected the site for mosquito breeding grounds on 02/08/16:"There were 4 tires holding no more than a square foot of water, shallow, no mosquito breeding found. All the other tires were dry."

CalTrans confirmed that they will be conducting a thorough clean-up of the area after the homeless encampment is removed starting February 29. The clean-up process will include removal of waste tires, domestic waste and hazardous waste.
